Community Task. Skill information.
« on: July 02, 2014, 12:09 »
As all of you know fonline2 has some differences with fallout2 which are not explained in the game.

One of huge differences are the Skills. Usage of them, and what they can really do. For example:

It doesn't give any info that It's needed for some professions, neither for sciencing weapons.

It isn't explaining what skill is good and needed for. So here's the community task. I ask you to contribute and create new skill description list, where we will find information and tips about the skill, it should explain for what skill is really good for and how it works (Barter for example)

The text needs to be squeezed into 187 letters. (Counting Spaces and dots.)

It should be in explaination form, like the original ones are.

The new descriptions will be chosen and second part will start, Translating them to polish and russian.

This is test community task, it may or may not get into the game.

If you're searching for a prize here, not just wanting to help out in game development, then turn around and don't come to this forum section never again.

SKILLS

Close Combat:
{Knowledge of hand to hand and melee combat. As you add skill points between 100 and 200 pecent, it also increases your movement speed when holding only close combat weapons.}

Scavenging:
{The skill of extracting useful odds and ends from various bits of junk. This skill is progressive, skill points cannot be put into it and it increases as you scavenge in the wasteland.}

First Aid:
{General healing skill. Determines how much HP is healed when skill is used. The maximum self-heal in combat is 150. Higher skill also reduces cooldown before you can heal again.}

Doctor:
{Used to heal crippled limbs and to wake up companions who get knocked out. Skill level determines how likely you are to succeed in treating people and how quickly you can try again.}

Sneak:
{Quiet movement and the ability to remain unnoticed. Maximum sneak skill is essential for an effective sneak. Remember that the more you carry, the easier you'll get spotted.}

Lock Pick:
{Opening locks without the proper key. Works on doors and containers in dungeons, and can be used to create new keys for cars (or just to steal them).}

Steal:
{The ability to make things of others your own. Sounds good? Just remember that every thief will get eventually caught, no matter how good he is at this art.}

Science:
{The practical uses of technical and scientific knowledge, such as disassembling items for parts, crafting electronics-based weaponry and hacking terminals.}

Repair:
{Used to repair equipment as it deteriorates. Is also necessary to craft more advanced armor and guns.}

Barter:
{The ability to haggle. Barter is a progressive skill, raised only by trading items. Higher barter skill also increases amount of time you can spend trading at a single trader.}

Outdoorsman:
{Practical knowledge of the outdoors, this skill gives you a better chance to avoid encounters on the worldmap while traveling.}

I would definately fix close combat info, saying that you will need skill over 100 to get movement speed bonus.

Example : "A knowledge of hand to hand techniques. Combat with your hands and knives, sledgehammers, spears, clubs and so on. Also every skillpoint over 100% will increase running speed by 0,25%."
Cock my suck

Does not give high repair and science skill (300) better chance to craft upgraded items than just 160 ?

Close Combat:
Determines martial prowess with weapons and unarmed combat. Higher skill improves movement speed and enables special hand-to-hand attacks.

Scavenging:
The ability extract useful items from junk.

First Aid:
Healing skill. With this you can heal from minor to major wounds.

Doctor:
Should you find your limbs crippled, this knowledge will come in handy. Requires doctor bag to work in turn based combat.

Sneak:
Active ability that enables you to move around unnoticed.

Lock Pick:
The ability to pick locks or cars. Lockpick sets improve this skill, while electronic lockpicks enable to open electrinic locks.
Steal:
Whats mine is mine, whats yours is mine. This ability can be used to steal from other people.

Science:
Represents general knowledge about crafting and the usage of computers. It is also used to break down items into their component parts.

Repair:
Ability to craft or repair broken and deteriorated items.

Barter:
Better prices for items you sell or buy from local NPC stores.

Outdoorsman:
Knowledge about wastelands is always useful to evade encounters that you do not wish for. Higher skill improves movement speed in the world map.

Scavenging and barter should have "Do not tag this skill"-info included.

My suggestion for science:
Science:
"The practical uses of technical and scientific knowledge, such as disassembling items for parts, crafting electronics-based weaponry and hacking terminals."

The Xsarq's version looks nice for now, if anyone notices there is something missing or some grammar problems in it, write them in this topic so he can fix them.

Thank you everyone for cooperation.

Close combat of Doobee and Feather's science is also good.

Here's my half assed version largely stolen from Xsarq:

Outdoorsman:
Practical knowledge of the outdoors, this skill gives you a better chance to avoid encounters on the worldmap while traveling. No reason to raise above 95%.

Barter:
The ability to haggle. Barter is a progressive skill, raised only by trading items. Higher barter skill also increases amount of time you can spend trading at a single trader.

Repair:
Used to repair equipment as it deteriorates. Is also necessary for to craft more advanced armor and guns. The most needed is 160%, but 130% is enough to learn the crafting professions.

Science:
Helps gain more materials when disassembling items, and is needed to craft drugs or energy weapons. 130% is enough for every Chemist and Scientist and 160% is max you need.

Steal:
The ability to make things of others your own. Skill can only be used in NCR and unprotected towns. Every thief will get shot by NPCs eventually in other towns, no matter how skilled.

Lockpick:
Opening locks without the proper key. Works on doors and containers in dungeons, and can be used to create new keys for cars (or just to steal them). The max you'll ever need is 195%.

Sneak:
Quiet movement and the ability to remain unnoticed. Maximum sneak skill is essential for an effective sneak. Remember that the more you carry, the easier you'll get spotted.

Doctor:
Used to heal crippled limbs and to wake up companions who get knocked out. Skill level determines how likely you are to succeed in treating people and how quickly you can try again.

First Aid:
General healing skill. Determines how much HP is healed when skill is used. The maximum self-heal in combat is 150. Higher skill also reduces cooldown before you can heal again.

Scavenging:
The skill of extracting useful odds and ends from various bits of junk. This skill is progressive; skill points cannot be put into it and it increases as you scavenge in the wasteland.

Close Combat:
Knowledge of hand to hand and melee combat. As you add skill points between 100 and 200 pecent, it also increases your movement speed when holding only close combat weapons.

I think should add that Science is needed for drugs crafting too, not just energy weaps. Also, what terminals do you hack with science? Sierra or something? If it's only sierra I do wonder if its necessary to even mention terminal hacking in description.

Yeah info about drugs needs to be added too, i've noticed that. About terminals, there is sierra and glow right now, but there will be more so info should stay there

In my opinion things like "no reason to raise above 95%", meaning practical information are not needed. Maybe a plain description with no technical matters would be better, you should put those just in the wiki.
